Standards and membership are two distinct services. Textile Exchange membership is not required or a prerequisite to become certified to one of our standards, although membership offers a lot of great benefits to our partners. You can find more information about membership here (https://textileexchange.org/membership/) and more information about standards here (https://textileexchange.org/standards/)

Textile Exchange is committed to building credible, internationally recognized standards that include assurance and monitoring and evaluations systems. A new standard comes into play whenever a gap is identified in the industry. For example, an identified industry gap in animal welfare standards with a chain of custody element is what led Textile Exchange to develop the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). In other fibers, such as leather, we have taken a different approach based on the realities of the supply chain and the impact areas that most need to be addressed. As an ISEAL Code Compliant member we are committed to continuously improving our standards system and ensuring its alignment with the ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Sustainability Systems.

As of now, Textile Exchange standards are not designed to provide full supply chain transparency. A brand may take the decision to do this additional investigation, but it is not included as part of the standard. If you are interested in doing the work of identifying all of these sites, then you would need to work directly with your suppliers and request that they disclose their sources to you.

Textile Exchange is, however, working on the development of a traceability system. You can learn more at https://textileexchange.org/tetrackit/.

If the organization controls the design, development, and purchase of final products for sale under their own name or private label, they would be considered a brand in this case and require certification. You can find the full brand and retailer definitions, as well as many others in Appendix A in the CCS 3.0: https://textileexchange.org/documents/content-claim-standard-ccs/
